Fashion Is Art, Vol. 1

Fashion is my first love. It’s always been an artistic outlet for me even when I didn’t quite understand the power of what we put on our bodies. Dreaming up an outfit that expresses my latest inspiration or the character I want to embody is so exciting. I love nothing more than putting together a look that allows me to tell the world exactly who I am; a look that makes me feel confident and strong and beautiful.

Fashion is powerful, it’s a visual language and it’s a language I speak fluently.

Why not use it as a way to help me further tell the stories of my work?

This is the first installment of the series I’m calling, “Fashion Is Art”

This piece is a real favorite right now. It’s fast paced and gestural. I remember having Beyonce’s latest album blasting in the background while I put down the first marks and danced around the studio.

To me, this piece represents fierce, female energy. The kind of energy that inspires a night out with your best girls. It’s the kind of night where you’re dressing for yourself and no one else. It’s a night where you look around the table and feel nothing but pride and gratitude for the women in your life; the women you feel most at home with. Finally, it’s the kind of night that ends with swollen feet and sore abs because you lost your mind on the dance floor and laughed more than you have all year.

Those are the best nights.
